WHO WE SERVE
The service area for Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana is Lake County, Indiana and serves people of various economic backgrounds and neighborhoods. Eligibility for Meals on Wheels is based on nutritional need and the individual’s inability to prepare or obtain a nutritious meal for themselves because of age, disability or illness. There are no eligibility criteria to receive Meals on Wheels related to income, sex, age, religion, race, ethnicity or handicap.
Hot meals are delivered Monday through Friday during lunchtime. A weekend meal package is available for those who need one. For persons outside our hot meal driving area or who are on a waiting list for delivery, a box of five frozen meals is available. We also have meals available for holidays and emergency food packages for weather problems when meals cannot be delivered. Meals on Wheels also offers a cold supper sack as a second meal should a client need one.
Agencies providing adult day care, child day care, or other health and welfare services are also eligible to purchase meals from our kitchen.
Information about eligibility for the Meals on Wheels program requires only a phone call. Call MOW at 219/756-FOOD (3663) for information or to complete an application. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Service can start usually within 48 hours after the application is completed. In some cases, there may be a waiting list on a particular route, and it will take longer to begin service. Frozen meals are offered until the hot meal program can begin.
