DAY CARES

Are you aware that Meals on Wheels delivers meals to adult and child day cares?  Consider Meals on Wheels as an alternative for meal preparation and delivery for your establishmentWe are currently accepting new contracts from licensed day cares.

Our Current Day Care Clients are the following:

  • Alliance Adult Day Care – Munster
  • Robinson Adult Day Care – Gary
  • Woodland Child Development Center – Hammond
  • Robertson Child Development Center – East Chicago
  • Gary Neighborhood Services

ADULT DAY CARE

Our adult day care menu offers planned meals which are based on the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.  This includes consumption of foods from each of the following basic food groups:

  • Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs and nuts (3 oz. of meat or 2 oz. of meat substitute)
  • Vegetable
  • Fruit
  • Grains/bread, rice, pasta, starchy vegetable
  • Milk, yogurt, cheese

CHILD DAY CARE

Our child day care menu offers the following:

  • Complies with the Child Care Food Program Meal Patterns set by the USDA Child Nutrition Program
  • Incorporates 2005 Dietary Guidelines
  • Follows the pre-school portions for 3-5 years old, but can be adapted to your facility’s age groups
  • Daily menu for 3-5 years old: 1 ˝ oz. meat, poultry or fish; 2 portions of vegetable and/or fruit to equal ˝ cup; starch as bread or pasta (day care provides 6 oz. of milk).
  • 4-week cycle menu (alternating in spring and fall)
  • One day a week, a picnic lunch is offered: a cold meat sandwich, 2 fruits or fruit/lettuce salad, and a dessert

Our meal does not include milk, which remains a responsibility of the day care to secure.  Meals are prepared fresh daily in the Meals on Wheels kitchen.  Hot portions are delivered hot, and cold portions are delivered cold—right to your door, Monday-Friday.  Portions are provided in bulk containers for the day care to serve.

When looking at the overhead costs and time commitments you may incur in preparing your own meals, it is cost-effective to consider Meals on Wheels as a viable option for meal service.  By enlisting our help for meal preparation and delivery, you would have additional time to care for your clients and children in other ways!
